1877 Wood Engraving Architecture City Hall Valenciennes France Revolution XEA7 SPAIN3 " and many other filmsThis is an original 1877 black and white wood engraving of the City Hall of Valenciennes, France. Aside from its use as a central administrative center, the City Hall was besieged by the First Coalition against Revolutionary France in 1793. It was later retaken by the revolutionaries in August of 1794. On a side note, some citizens of the town tortured, raped, and guillotined (in that order?), five Ursine nuns during the Reign of Terror. Scary stuff
